Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and correspondences; manage reports, maps, plans and drawings.
  • Communicate plans and problems to supervisors, officials, and customers; liaise with field crews.
  • Travel to sites as needed and maintain project field labor hour input.

Department Overview

General Construction Gas Distribution Construction Engineering is responsible for the safe completion of construction projects on gas transmission and distribution assets delivered on time and within budget. The Gas Construction Engineering group ensures projects are built and documented to PG&E standards and regulatory requirements. The team reviews projects prior to construction, coordinates and supports projects in construction, creates construction as-builts, gas clearances, operational changes, and ensures project closeout through the as-built process.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. It is responsible for completing pre and post-job reviews, pre-checking the work prior to construction, creating estimates and reviewing all regional as-built packages. Duties include attending pre-construction meetings, supporting crews during construction, coordinating shutdowns, ensuring material type is correct and compliant with NEC requirements, closing out estimates, completing post-construction checks, reviewing all regional as-built drawings for 100% accuracy, and providing assistance to the scheduling group. The position is a Department of Transportation (DOT) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. Travel is estimated to be about 50% of the time with some overnight stays.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the general construction supervisor with daily routine issues regarding construction of jobs
  • Pre- and post-construction estimates, complete checks, prepare as-builts, review contractor invoices
  • Work with schedulers when planning construction of projects
  • Ensure correct materials are documented in bill of materials for as-builts
  • Use computer to research, write proposals, correspondence, e-mail, compile, copy, file and mail reports; use phone, copier, scanner, fax; reproduce maps, plans, diagrams, drawings; spec out and order supplies and materials; prepare service orders
  • Communicate with supervisors, public officials, the general public and customers regarding project plans, designs and identified problems; communicate with construction foremen, engineers, inspectors, estimators and mappers; communicate with other departments involved with projects
  • Make field sketches and prepare layouts for construction of gas or electric systems; record locations, dimensions, identified problems, proposed layouts, construction plans, time frames and as-built drawings
  • Visit sites to evaluate access issues and existing facilities
  • Review all regional as-built packages for 100% accuracy
  • Host project construction status meetings
  • Maintain projects field labor hour input
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction disciplines; or 2 years experience plus supplemental education establishing the ability to perform the duties. Supplemental education requires coursework in at least three of the following: physics, principles of electricity, chemistry, statics, surveying, dynamics, math (including trigonometry and basic calculus), and a minimum of 30 quarter or 20 semester units at an accredited college. An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate satisfies the supplemental education requirement.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid California Driver's License

Desired:

  • Previous field engineer/project engineer experience
  • Experience in CAD with hand-drafting skills
  • Certified Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
  • Strong math and computer skills; strong written and verbal communication and attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive)
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Willingness to travel and relocate within PG&E’s service territory as required
  • Ability to read construction drawings
  • Previous experience with SAP
  • Ability to wear company-provided PPE and fire-retardant clothing
  • Experience in transmission and distribution of gas construction
  • Preference for applicants living within 50 miles of the headquarters

Compensation for this position ranges from $51.15 to $76.65 per hour, with a starting hourly rate of $51.15 subject to collective-bargained wage increases.
