Job summary

Dean Snyder Construction Co. in Ankeny, IA, is seeking a field-oriented teammate to learn, retain, and apply construction techniques under the guidance of the site Superintendent.

You’ll read blueprints, interpret specifications, and support project management by supervising crews and coordinating material purchases in the absence of a superintendent. This role offers a career path toward becoming a Superintendent, with opportunities for travel on industrial projects and regionally focused work

Responsibilities

• Reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements.
• Works in the field under direct supervision of the Superintendent; performs concrete/steel/carpentry tasks as needed.
• Coordinate shop drawings with conformance to building documents.
• Assists Superintendent in planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
• Consults with clients, vendors, subcontractors to discuss and resolve issues.
• Confers with job superintendent and owners to coordinate phases and prevent delays.
• Study project documents for materials, prepare layout, and check using surveying tools.
• Ensure safety and report incidents to the Superintendent or HR Manager.
• Performs additional duties to support project success.

Job Summary:

Position is responsible for learning retaining and recalling construction techniques and processes under the guidance of job-site Superintendent. Reading blueprints and specifications to ensure proper interpretation of design. Applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, or processes and learning management and inspection of construction projects. Duties include building layout, monitoring, and assigning work to employees; coordinating, organizing, and overseeing construction projects and purchasing materials in the absence of a superintendent; overseeing equipment operation; maintaining equipment; inspecting work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and adherence to work schedules. This position is working in the field on a career path to Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise crews and subcontractors

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements.
• Works in the field under direct supervision of the Superintendent. Performs concrete/steel/carpentry tasks as needed
• Coordinate shop drawings with conformance to building documents
• Assists Superintendent in planning, organizing, and scheduling work,
• Consults with clients, vendors, subcontractors, or other individuals to discuss and resolve issues. Formulate short interval planning and assist in running worksite job meetings
• Confers with job superintendent, subcontractors, and owners engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to resolve construction problems and prevent delays
• Studies project documents for information pertaining to type of material required, and dimensions of structure; prepares layout, using proper tools and company standards and checking for square using theodolites, total station and laser
• Ensure that proper safety is maintained and incident reporting procedures are followed, bring problems to the attention of the Superintendent, Field Safety Coordinator or HR Manager.
• Performs additional duties as assigned to support project and organizational success.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent physical activity like climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, and using hands.
• Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils, harsh weather, poor lighting, tight spaces, and loud noise.
• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally (with team assistance) and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
