Job summary

PCL Buildings Inc. in Abilene, TX is seeking a Field Engineer to support our national data center business unit. You will mentor teams, coordinate with the superintendent on workforce planning, and manage document control while assisting with RFIs, shop drawings, and changes.

The role requires a related degree and up to 12 months of field experience; strong communication and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as construction management, engineering, or architecture.
• 0 to 8-12 months of field engineer/coordinator experience; internships count.
• Knowledge of construction specs, methods, and scheduling techniques.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Mentors and leads inspections and orientations, identifies hazards, and enforces safety.
• Coordinates with superintendent on workforce planning.
• Maintains project document control and supports engineers and superintendents with RFIs and shop drawings.
• Supports trade contractors, changes and billings.
• Oversees self-perform scopes, labor tracking, and Labor Cost Reports.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with partners.

Here’s how a Field Engineer for PCL Buildings Inc. within Phoenix Buildings contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

• Mentors and leads inspections and orientations, identifies hazards and corrections, and leads by example for health and safety practices and procedures.
• Coordinates with superintendent on workforce planning.
• Maintains project document control and procedures. Supports project engineers and/or superintendents to lead trade contractors, including requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, changes, and billings.
• Participates in the supervision of self-perform scopes, including resolving crew sizes, labor tracking, and quantity tracking for Labor Cost Reports (LCRs).
• Mentors and coaches field engineers and students/interns).
• Identifies issues on-site or in defined work scopes.
• Coordinates third-party inspections and site reviews.
• Participates in crafting, implementing, and supervising quality plan, Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
• Develop and maintains positive relationships focusing on all partners.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in a related field: construction management, engineering, architecture preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 0 to 8-12 months of varied experience as field engineer/coordinator preferred; time acquired during internships in the field may count as experience.
• Knowledge of construction specifications, and methods and procedures (e.g., formwork methodologies, self-perform work, subcontracted work scopes, temporary work, equipment, and scheduling techniques).
• Understands and applies construction principles to problem solve.
• Effective verbal and written communication with supervisors and subcontractors, and reports.
• Proven track record to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Writes clear technical communication to trade contractors, designers and inspectors.
• Develops and maintains effective partner relationships.
• Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and construction related software.
