Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an Electrical Engineer focused on power systems to lead field testing and commissioning across Texas. You will interpret wiring diagrams, develop isolation plans, and drive end-to-end relay testing in data center, industrial, and commercial environments.

The role requires hands-on field work, safety-first practice near high-voltage lines, and strong communication skills for customers and teammates. Strong problem-solving and independent decision-making are essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with focus on Power Systems.
Internship in a related industry is a plus.
FE or EIT certification desirable.
Comfortable safely working near high-voltage transmission lines.
Ability to work independently, accurately, and make sound decisions.
Willingness to work hands-on in field at industrial and commercial sites; not an office job.
Strong computer skills.
SCADA knowledge is a plus, but not required.
Clear verbal and written English communication with customers and co-workers.
Good background check and must be and stay drug-free.
Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk long periods.
Must drive to customer jobsites across Texas, including remote locations.

Responsibilities

Drive to customer jobsites in a company-provided vehicle across Texas, including remote locations.
Review, interpret, and understand wiring diagrams and relaying schematics.
Understand customer needs and requirements.
Determine isolation plans to take protective schemes out of service before work begins.
Develop test plans for relaying projects using customer-provided prints and documentation.
Apply settings and perform functional tests on microprocessor protective relays and associated circuitry using test equipment.
Ensure received and installed electrical equipment meets project specifications.
Develop energizing procedures for placing new equipment into service.
Perform end-to-end relay testing to verify carrier and fiber systems.
Perform primary current injection testing to verify secondary current connections.
Perform simple power system studies, including short circuit, arc-flash, and protective device coordination studies.
Conduct NETA testing and commission electrical systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues with clients.
Provide recommendations for improvements.
Work in data center, industrial, and commercial environments while delivering high-quality work.
