Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Controls Integration Engineer to support on-site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated material handling equipment. This early-career role offers mentorship from senior engineers and hands-on experience with IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.

You will contribute to validation, testing, and turnover activities while growing technical expertise in PLC programming and industrial networking within a safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure.
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust.
• Experience with Linux/Unix.

Responsibilities

• Support on-site commissioning activities for sorters, conveyors, and automated work cells under the direction of senior engineers.
• Assist with provisioning, configuring, and validating Linux-based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and field devices per project standards.
• Perform I/O checkouts, point-to-point wiring verification, and device-level validation.
• Execute defined commissioning and test procedures, documenting results and flagging deviations.
• Support dry runs, functional testing, and integrated system testing during startup phases.
• Troubleshoot device-level and subsystem-level issues including sensor faults, communication errors, wiring discrepancies, and basic PLC logic issues.
• Escalate complex or multi-domain issues to senior engineers with clear documentation of symptoms, steps taken, and observations.
• Assist with industrial network validation including IP addressing, device discovery, and basic switch configuration verification.
• Document issues, resolutions, and lessons learned to support team knowledge sharing.
• Work alongside technicians, electricians, and contractors during system installation and commissioning.
• Follow safety requirements, quality standards, and commissioning procedures at all times.
• Communicate status, blockers, and progress to the on-site lead engineer clearly and proactively.
• Maintain organized records of commissioning progress, punch lists, and test results.
• Support equipment validation against design specifications and controls standards.
• Assist with integration testing between field devices, PLCs, and higher-level control systems (WCS).
• Participate in turnover activities, helping ensure systems are documented and ready for operational ownership.
• Actively develop technical skills in PLC programming, industrial networking, and commissioning methodology.
• Seek feedback from senior engineers and apply lessons learned to improve personal execution quality.
• Contribute observations and ideas to improve commissioning processes, tools, and documentation.
