Position

Field Construction Coordinator – K&A Engineering Consulting, Hornell, NY.

Role Summary

The Field Construction Coordinator (FCC), led by the Project Manager and Construction Manager, coordinates and supervises all construction and field work, managing schedules, mobilization, demobilization, safety, quality, and cost compliance.

Role Expectations
  • Field support to resolve problems – being proactive.
  • Reporting – weekly reports, monthly reports, tracking of weekly PayIds completed.
  • Monitor schedule – look ahead versus PM.
  • Attend contractor’s Safety, Environment and Quality meetings; provide onsite input.
  • Maintain and update the onsite H&S, Environment and Quality project binder.
  • Document all project progress to provide a good paper trail.
  • Review contractor invoices and schedules and provide feedback.
  • Conduct weekly project progress meetings; request contractor two‑week look‑ahead schedule at each meeting.
  • Present onsite when work is performed; observe contractor activities frequently.
  • Notify PM immediately of all problems or foreseeable issues and any public complaints.
  • Coordinate material delivery between customer stockroom and contractor.
  • Inspect all construction material for damage and completeness.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure workmanship conforms to specifications, quality and schedules.
  • Facilitate resolving construction problems, discrepancies, procedures and methods with engineering personnel, inspectors, contractors and suppliers; strong communications skills required.
  • Minimize change orders; support PM in reviewing requested changes, claims and mitigation by contractors.
  • Review project documentation and provide input to enhance constructability, considering schedule, cost and quality.
  • Maintain daily onsite as‑build project plans.
  • Continuously communicate (written and verbally) with the associated PM.
  • Adhere to company policies, programs, procedures and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements throughout execution.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging open communication, reporting unsafe conditions and suggesting improvements to safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations through inspections and hazard mitigation.
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive electric utility industry experience, with transmission facilities construction management.
  • Two (2) years of college preferred.
  • Construction Project Engineer background preferred.
  • Distribution line work experience required.
  • MS Office Suite required – high competency in Excel.
  • Knowledge of NRA clearances and switching orders beneficial.
  • Experience reviewing project plans, specifications, contract enforcement and applicable technical standards, OSHA and other regulations.
  • Experience in electrical utility transmission UV/OV & civil construction.
  • Current U.S. work authorization and valid U.S. driver’s license in good standing.
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory capacity experience.
  • Knowledge of GPS systems and SAP preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings and convey interpretations to contractors.
  • Ability to investigate and solve construction problems promptly with minimal dependence on others.
  • Computer and administrative skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to attend training in E‑STAR/CONVEX (switching and tagging).
Pay Range

$40–$48 per hour.
