Job summary

Transcat is seeking a field calibration technician to provide onsite calibration services for customers within an 8-hour radius, including occasional lab support. The role requires calibration experience, strong customer communication, and the ability to travel Monday through Friday with lodging and expenses covered by the company.

Candidate must have a relevant education or 2–5 years in the field, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Calibration experience and/or equivalent training with commercial and/or biomedical measurement and test equipment (M&MTE).
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Customer service oriented with professional interaction skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and internet; basic database familiarity.
  • 3+ years driving with a valid license and clean history.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate measurement and test equipment to manufacturers' specifications.
  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and implement corrective actions.
  • Update and maintain service documentation.
  • Inform customers about other Transcat services and equipment offerings.
  • Maintain calibration standards and contribute to process improvements.
  • Assist with travel and related administrative paperwork.

Summary-

To provide onsite calibration of test equipment for customers within the specified location up to and including an 8-hour radius. Also, will have the opportunity to support the local Transcat laboratory when not traveling.

Responsibilities
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Calibrate measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to manufactures specifications
  • Determine out of tolerance conditions for customer M&TE and calibration standards
  • Provide corrective action (i.e., adjustments, minor repairs) for out of tolerance conditions
  • Update and maintain proper documentation of services
  • Provide customer with information regarding other services and new equipment provided by Transcat
  • Maintain calibration standards
  • Provide feedback and updates regarding calibration practices and procedures
  • Proficiency in submitting and updating required paperwork for travel and administrative purposes
  • Other duties as assigned
Travel Requirements
  • This is a travel position Monday through Friday
  • Weekly overnight travel to customer's facility to provide services - home 95% of weekends
  • Company pays for all lodging and expenses when away from home
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Calibration experience and/or equivalent training with commercial and/or biomedical measurement and test equipment (M&TE)
  • Self-motivator requiring little or no supervision
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to interact with customers & coworkers in a professional manner
  • Proficiency with MS Office and the internet; familiarity with basic database functionality
  • 3+ years driving experience with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driver history
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree from college or technical school; or 2-5 years of related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Experience/ Skills
  • Military PMEL training
  • Strong attention to detail - able to follow written instructions.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize diversified workload and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Required to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours per day)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a 400-pound cart from unloading area to customer designated service area
  • Occasionally will be required to lift upwards of 75lbs
