Job summary

Sperry Rail Service is seeking a Trainee/Apprentice for field-based work across the eastern or western US. You will be trained at Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection and developed into a Certified Operator in NDT.

The role includes extensive travel (3–4 months at a time) and hands-on testing experience. During paid training, compensation is $20.00 per hour, with a promotion to a $60,000 annual base salary upon certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to multitask and work with tools/equipment.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and DOT physical where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete training at the Sperry School of Rail Flaw Detection.
• Learn rail detection methods and procedures across railways.
• Achieve certification in ultrasonic testing standards.
• Work as part of a crew and develop leadership skills to lead a team.
• Gain knowledge of Sperry’s diagnostic technologies and interfaces.
• Develop mechanical aptitude, including equipment setup and basic repairs.
• Adhere to railroad operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Apply training during extended travel assignments (3–4 months).
