Job summary

State of Oklahoma's Department of Environmental Quality in Oklahoma City seeks an Environmental Programs Specialist to manage the Land Reclamation and OCERA programs within the Sustainable Materials Management Section. The incumbent will perform regulatory tasks, public outreach, grant support, and data management, requiring field presence and travel across the state.

A bachelor's degree with science credits is required; in-office work Monday–Friday; background check and work authorization are

Qualifications

  • Level I requires a bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours in physical, natural, or biological sciences or related fields.
  • Level II requires level I credentials plus one year of professional experience or a master’s degree in a qualifying area.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Land Reclamation Specialist.
  • Manage the OCERA Program.
  • Assist with the Solid Waste Management Grant Program.
  • Participate in public outreach/training events.
  • Coordinate and lead compliance assistance/technical outreach to DEQ regulated businesses.
  • Perform data management activities as needed.
  • Lead or assist with special projects as needed.
  • Must be able to be in the field approximately two or more days a week in locations throughout the state.
  • Must be able to travel in state and out of state to meetings and training.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software.

Education

Bachelor's degree with 24 semester hours in physical, natural, or biological sciences, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, epidemiology, environmental science, environmental health or civil, agricultural, environmental, geological or chemical engineering
One year of professional experience or master's degree in a qualifying area
