Job summary

KLJ in Albuquerque, NM is seeking an Archaeologist to support archaeological investigations and cultural resource management across transportation, energy, environmental permitting and infrastructure projects. This role blends fieldwork, data collection and reporting with collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in archaeology or related field, 1–3 years of field experience, GIS and Trimble GPS proficiency, and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of archaeological field experience, including survey, excavation, site documentation, and/or construction monitoring.
• Experience with GIS and field technologies such as Trimble GPS, ArcCollector, Survey123.
• Knowledge of archaeological research methods and regional prehistoric or historic archaeology.
• Understanding of cultural resource regulations, preservation and documentation standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as project needs require.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological surveys, site recordation, construction monitoring, and excavation activities.
• Collect artifacts, spatial data, and field observations; document and analyze findings.
• Utilize GIS, GPS, and field technologies to support data collection and reporting.
• Assist with cultural resource assessments to support environmental permitting and project development.
• Support project managers and technical teams with field planning, permitting coordination, and compliance.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and recommendations based on research and field investigations.
• Maintain equipment and ensure accurate data collection.
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, planners, and other specialists.
• Follow safety protocols in office and field environments.
