Job summary

Real-Time Innovations (RTI) is seeking a Field Application Engineer to work directly with customers solving complex technical challenges in mission-critical, distributed systems. You will engage with defense programs and other critical industries, understanding requirements and enabling teams to adopt RTI’s Connext software to build reliable, real-time systems.

Qualifications

  • BS or higher in engineering or computer science; MS preferred.
  • 5+ years in application-facing technical services or sales.
  • Experience with one or more of: C/C++/Python/Java/.NET.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong OS and networking concepts knowledge (UDP, Multicast).

Responsibilities

  • Help teams building advanced defense systems choose their future software architecture.
  • Explain RTI technology to executives, architects, program managers and developers.
  • Develop Proof-of-Concept prototypes and demonstrations with prospects.
  • Develop sales strategies with your account manager teammate.
  • Communicate customer technical requirements to Product Management and engineering to evolve our technology.
  • Join our online developer community forum as an RTI domain expert.
  • Communicate RTI’s technology in published technical articles and speaking engagements.

Job description

As a Field Application Engineer, you’ll work directly with customers solving complex technical challenges in mission-critical, intelligent distributed systems. You’ll engage with advanced programs across defense and other critical industries, understand their technical requirements, and help teams adopt RTI’s leading software architecture to build reliable, real-time systems.

RTI technology is deployed across 400+ programs of record, including command-and-control, air defense, avionics, autonomous vehicles, and ground systems used by the U.S. and NATO. Beyond defense, our software supports power generation, medical robotics, and other mission-critical applications. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of software, systems engineering, and real-world applications—helping customers turn complex technical challenges into operational capabilities. Location: Candidates based in the New England area are preferred, as the majority of travel will be within the region.

  • Self-motivated sales attitude, comfortable on a team and without day-to-day direction
  • US Citizenship required *Due to applicable laws, government regulations and contract specifications, we are required to fill this position only with an individual who qualifies as a "U.S. Citizen."
  • Messaging or high-performance distributed systems
  • Embedded system experience
  • JMS, AMQP, MQTT and Web Services
  • Knowledge about current trends in the A&D Industry.

The compensation range for this role is $130,000–$180,000 OTE (base salary plus commission) for the New England region. The salary range displayed on this job posting reflects a minimum and maximum target. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that this range reflects the base salary target range only, and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
