Job summary

The City of Indianapolis & Marion County seeks an Animal Care Services Officer to respond to citizen requests, apprehend and impound animals, and enforce municipal and state animal laws in Marion County, Indiana.

You will investigate bites and violations, testify in court, maintain records, and collaborate with police, health officials, and other divisions. A valid driver’s license and law enforcement or animal experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must pass pre-employment physical/agility test, drug screen, background check, and aptitude/psychological test.
• At least 1 year law enforcement or animal-related experience preferred.
• Valid Indiana driver’s license with clean record; ability to operate a 1-ton van.

Responsibilities

• Respond to citizen requests for service and complaints regarding animals.
• Apprehend and impound animals at large or in violation of code.
• Investigate bites/attacks and document incidents; issue citations and testify in court.
• Maintain daily activity logs and animal care records; inspect pet shops and kennels.
• Work with Indianapolis Police, Sheriff, Court, Health Department; provide public assistance.
