Hardy Industries is seeking skilled Fiber Testing and Splicing Technicians to support our national client base. This role involves field testing, troubleshooting, and splicing, with tasks ranging from OTDR testing to identifying network impairments.

The position is a 1099 contractor role with on-site work and travel within a local territory. Prior fiber IT or telecom experience is preferred, with certification options listed above.

Qualifications

• Fiber testing and troubleshooting experience required.
• OTDR testing, power meters, light sources, and certification equipment familiarity.
• Understanding of single-mode and multi-mode systems.
• Experience reading network diagrams, splice schematics, blueprints, and docs.
• 1+ year in fiber, IT, or telecom field.

Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic testing, splicing, and fault identification.
• Conduct OTDR tests, power-meter checks, and fiber certification tasks.
• Inspect and clean connectors; replace jumpers and patch cords as needed.
• Document test results, splicing records, and project deliverables.
• Work independently across diverse environments and with clients.

Are you a hands-on Fiber Optic, I.T., or Telecom professional looking for something beyond basic installations? Hardy Industries is seeking skilled, driven Fiber Testing and Splicing Technicians to support our growing national client base. This role goes far beyond simple cable testing — one day you may be certifying fiber links with an OTDR, the next you're troubleshooting network impairments, performing fusion splicing (only if you know how), replacing damaged jumpers, or identifying faults across critical infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of fiber optic and technical tasks including but not limited to:
  
  
  
  • Fiber optic splicing using fusion and mechanical splicing techniques - (Select techs who already know how)
  
  
  • OTDR testing, power meter testing, light source testing, and fiber certification
  
  
  • Fiber continuity testing and fault-distance identification
  
  
  • Connector inspection, cleaning, and remediation
  
  
  • Patch-cord troubleshooting and fiber jumper replacement
  
  
  • Installation, termination, and testing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cabling
  
  
  • Identification and troubleshooting of customer-premise and network-side impairments
  
  
  • Documentation of test results, splicing records, and project deliverables
  
  
  
  


• Work independently across various environments including retail, medical, restaurant, corporate, telecommunications, and data center facilities


• Maintain a high standard of professionalism with clients and project stakeholders


• Be available to accept service requests within your coverage territory depending on your availability, NOT FULL TIME

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Fiber optic testing and troubleshooting experience required


• Experience with OTDRs, power meters, light sources, fiber certification equipment, and visual fault locators


• Understanding of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic systems


• Familiarity with structured cabling standards and best practices


• Ability to read network diagrams, splice schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation


• At least 1 year of Fiber, I.T., or Telecom experience, and one of the following:

  • Network+ Certification
  
  
  • OR 5+ years verifiable Fiber, I.T., or Telecom field experience
  
  
  
  

Required Equipment & Qualifications

• Reliable personal vehicle (Public transportation not accepted)


• Valid driver's license


• Must have a standard set of fiber optic and telecommunications tools

Compensation & Perks

• 1099 contractor position
