Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Fiber Technician to install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and remove fiber components at Andersen AFB, Guam. You will ensure compliance with base standards and provide technical guidance on installation and configuration of fiber networking systems.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 2+ years in the field, CFOT certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days), and a Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

• Education and security requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and US Secret clearance.
• CFOT certification required or willing to obtain within 60 days.
• At least 2+ years of related fiber technician experience.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, troubleshoot, repair, and remove network fiber components in field environments.
• Layout, installation, termination, labeling and testing of fiber components per standards.
• Provide technical guidance on installation, adaptation, and configuration of fiber products.
• Escalate status to customers as needed and communicate progress clearly.

Our work depends on a Fiber Technician joining our team to installs, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and removes network fiber components. Performs layout, installation, termination, labeling, testing, and certification of all associated fiber components and ensures compliance with program, industry and base standards.

HOW A FIELD ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Provides technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration, and/or enhancement of company technical products, programs, and systems

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.


• Required Experience: 2+ years of related experience


• Required Technical Skills: Fiber optic networking tools such as voltmeters and other diagnostic equipment.


• Security Clearance Level: Secret


• Certifications: Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT). Must possess or be willing to obtain within 60 days of employment

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving and collaborative skills


• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multi-task while still ensuring high quality of work.


• Supports the timely escalation and communication of status to external and internal customers.


• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills applied to the development and presentation of technical materials appropriate to a broad spectrum of audiences.


• Adept at interfacing with Government at senior leader levels and representing the interests of GDIT

Preferred Skills:

• ITIL V3/4 Foundation or higher

• Location: On Customer Site, Andersen AFB, Guam
