Job summary

Advanced Electric Systems (AES), a Quanta Services company, seeks experienced Fiber Technicians to install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic systems in aerial and underground environments. You will travel frequently to support critical infrastructure projects in Heber City, Utah and Austin, Texas.

You’ll work with OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, and system diagrams, mentor junior staff, maintain logs, and uphold safety on sites with project managers and field crews.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing.
• Strong understanding of fiber types, color codes, and industry standards.
• Proficiency with OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, and related tools.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors year‑round, lift 50+ lbs, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
• Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Test and troubleshoot fiber using OTDRs, power meters, and related diagnostic tools.
• Read and interpret splicing diagrams, network maps, and construction drawings.
• Install enclosures, patch panels, and other fiber components.

• Maintain accurate daily logs, documentation, and test records.
• Travel regularly for project assignments, including overnight stays.

About this Role

At Advanced Electric Systems, we are looking for experienced Fiber Technicians. In this role, you’ll install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic systems in both aerial and underground environments. What You'll Do

As a Fiber Technician you will:

• Work closely with project managers and field crews to meet schedules and quality standards
• Follow all company safety practices and site‑specific safety requirements
• Travel regularly for project assignments, including overnight stays

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
• Strong understanding of fiber types, color codes, and industry standards
• Proficiency with OTDRs, power meters, VFLs, and related tools
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to work outdoors year‑round, lift 50+ lbs, and work at heights or in confined spaces
• Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and commitment to safety

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid certifications
• CDL or willingness to obtain one
• Experience in both underground and aerial fiber construction
• Leadership experience or ability to lead small crews
• Familiarity with GIS tools and digital job tracking platforms (iPads/tablets)
