Job summary

Cogent Communications is seeking a seasoned network engineer to support field operations in the Denver area. You will perform field activities on Cogent's nationwide network, install network elements in data centers, and perform turn-ups with precise documentation.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in telecom networks, hands-on DWDM/IP experience, and strong troubleshooting skills. Travel up to 30% and collaboration with vendors and internal teams are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of telecom networks experience.
• 1+ year field experience in DWDM/IP networks.
• Experience with telecom test equipment.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all network field activity on Cogent network.
• Installation of Network Elements within Cogent locations (Data centers, POPs, Hubs).
• Turn-up and test new customer circuits at Cogent Data Centers, carrier neutral datacenters, and multitenant office buildings, document and communicate changes.
• Responsible for maintaining the Cogent fiber network (locates, maintenance, splicing, emergency restoration, transmission equipment maintenance).
• Responsible for maintaining Cogent Data Centers (facility maintenance, compliance, equipment maintenance).
• Management of contractors and vendors.
• Independent and self-starter.
• Work with Network Planning and Customer Service Delivery to provide Field perspective to network deployment as well as to provide expertise in deployments.
• Maintain proficiency within the telecommunications infrastructure, fiber, CWDM and DWDM technologies.
• Work with AC and DC power systems.

Compensation

Starting / Initial Base Salary Pay Range: $54,000 - $90,000

• 1+ years of field experience in DWDM and / or IP networks
• Experience in the use of telecommunications test equipment: optical power meters (OPM – OLS), OTDR, OSA, Ethernet / IP testers; interpretation of test results
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• High-energy individual with interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate peers, and drive project to completion.

Additional Desired Qualifications

• Experience on daily operations of a Datacenter (Diesel Generator, UPS, HVAC).
• Experience maintaining a fiber network.
