Position Summary:

The Fiber Splicing Manager is responsible for overseeing all fiber splicing operations, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance across projects. This role leads splicing teams, manages subcontractors, and provides technical expertise to support successful project execution. The position ensures all fiber work meets company and customer standards while driving productivity, training, and operational performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

• Maintain expert-level knowledge of all Fiber Splicer duties and responsibilities
• Lead and manage splicing teams, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
• Oversee subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to company and customer standards
• Provide daily updates to Project Managers regarding progress, timelines, and completion forecasts
• Track productivity, labor, and material usage while maintaining project budgets
• Develop and implement training programs to improve splicer performance and productivity
• Provide technical guidance to resolve complex fiber issues and perform hands‑on splicing during critical outages or emergencies as needed
• Review and quality control OTDR and power meter test results to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Partner with Project Managers to ensure adherence to project timelines and deliverables
• Understand and enforce customer‑specific splicing requirements and standards
• Maintain and ensure accurate daily updates in Fieldwire, including QC documentation, photos, and splicing records
• Provide customers with required documentation, including as‑builts, fiber matrices, and related deliverables
• Plan, assign, and monitor daily splicing tasks to meet production goals and deadlines
• Travel as required to support project needs across markets
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and support after‑hours or emergency repair work as needed
• Lead job safety efforts, enforce company and OSHA safety protocols, and conduct routine job‑site audits
• Utilize and maintain access to company systems and programs that are restricted to U.S.-based operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies and regulatory requirements
• Perform additional duties as assigned
• Other duties may be assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities:

Oversees fiber splicing operations and teams to ensure alignment with company standards, customer requirements, and operational expectations.

Maintains accountability for quality, accuracy, and performance of all splicing work across projects.

Ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Identifies opportunities for improvement in splicing operations, training, and execution to increase efficiency and productivity.

Maintains proper documentation and reporting to support operational visibility and project success.

Work Hours (may vary by location):

This position is scheduled as full time in a regular work week. Additional support outside of standard hours may be required based on project needs. Travel may be required based on project demands ranging from 10% to 50% and should be discussed with the supervisor.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 5+ years of experience in fiber optic splicing, telecom, or related field operations
• Proven experience leading splicing teams, crews, or subcontractors
• Advanced knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques, testing equipment (OTDR, power meters), and industry standards
• Strong understanding of fiber network design, construction practices, and customer specifications
• Experience with project coordination, production tracking, and meeting project timelines
• Experience working in multi-project or multi-market environments preferred
• Strong leadership, training, and team development experience
• Ability to read and interpret fiber schematics, splice diagrams, and construction prints
• Experience with field tracking systems such as Fieldwire or similar platforms preferred
• Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, field‑driven environment

Language Ability:

Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to comprehend and complete documents, and answer questions in English. Ability to communicate clearly with field teams, leadership, and customers.

Math Ability:

Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to project tracking, measurements, and material quantities.

Reasoning Ability:

Demonstrated ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to identify problems, escalation issues appropriately, and support solutions in a structured environment.

Computer Skills:

• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Advanced experience with field tracking systems such as Fieldwire or similar platforms
• Ability to review, analyze, and maintain digital splicing records, including OTDR results, photos, and as‑built documentation
• Familiarity with fiber mapping systems, splice schematics, and network documentation tools
• Experience using testing equipment software and digital reporting tools for fiber validation
• Proficiency in using mobile devices, tablets, and field‑based applications for real‑time updates and communication
• Ability to generate reports, track productivity, and support project documentation requirements
• Strong ability to navigate web‑based systems, shared drives, and internal operational platforms

Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license required
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification – preferred
• Fiber optic certification (e.g., FOA CFOT or equivalent) – preferred
• Bucket truck certification – required or ability to obtain
• Confined space training/certification – preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for overseeing Fiber Splicers and supporting splicing crews across assigned projects. Responsibilities include providing direction, monitoring performance, ensuring adherence to company and customer standards, and supporting day‑to‑day splicing operations. The role also includes reinforcing safety compliance, quality control, productivity expectations, and overall accountability within splicing teams.
