Job summary

Telecon is seeking a Fiber Splicer to perform fiber optic cable preparation, splicing, termination, testing, and restoration for outside plant projects in the Bellevue/Bellevue-WA area. You will work independently or with a team to ensure high quality workmanship and safety on every job.

The role requires 1–3 years of fiber splicing experience, the ability to interpret splice plans, and proficiency with OTDR, power meters, and VFL testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or relevant work experience.
• 1–3 years fiber splicing experience required.
• Coax activation and power supply activation experience are a plus.
• Ability to meet safety training requirements (First Aid, Confined Spaces, Working at Heights).
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to drive DOT vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Splice and test fiber optic cables in outside plant installations (buried/underground; may include aerial).
• Analyze test results and troubleshoot splices with the team.
• Read and interpret work plans and splice specifications to ensure safe, compliant installation.
• Work outdoors in various weather to lay copper or fiber optic cables and verify infrastructure.
• Record project progress and communicate issues or delays to supervision.

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for performing fiber optic cable preparation, splicing, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration activities in support of outside plant telecommunications construction. This position ensures fiber installations meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, company standards, and applicable safety and quality requirements.

The Fiber Splicer works independently or as part of a fiber construction team and is responsible for completing assigned work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship, documentation, and jobsite safety.

You Will Have The Opportunity To

• Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – Mainly buried/underground, potentially aerial, on both newly placed and existing cables
• Analyze test results, troubleshoot and work as a team to fix bad splices
• Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans
• Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety policy
• Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fiber optic telecommunication cables
• Verify existing infrastructure by accessing applicable furniture and documenting results
• Able to climb ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment
• Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
• Other duties as required

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

• High school diploma or relevant work experience
• 1-3 years of Fiber Splicing experience
• Coax/Coax Activation experience is an asset
• Power Supply Activation / ROLT experience is an asset
• Able to complete the necessary training for First Aid, Confined Spaces and Working at Heights
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans
• Competency in OTDR / Power Meters / VFL and other testing protocols
• Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
• Must be able to speak, read and write English
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements
• Holds driver’s license and able to drive DOT vehicles
• Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract
