Job summary

TEK Systems is seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Splicer to support data center, hyperscale, indoor and outdoor fiber optic infrastructure projects. The role includes preparing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting and documenting fiber installations while maintaining safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has hands-on splicing and testing experience and can read splice matrices, fiber drawings and engineering documents. Travel is extensive, with multiple weeks on-site per project.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license preferred.
  • 2+ years hands-on experience prepping, splicing, and testing fiber optic cable.
  • Experience in data centers, hyperscale facilities, or ISP networks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
  • Handle fiber cable counts from 12 to 6912 per project requirements.
  • Prepare and organize cables within splice enclosures, pedestals, panels, trays, and cabinets.
  • Conduct Tier 1 and Tier 2 testing using OLTS and OTDR equipment.
  • Troubleshoot fiber network issues and document results.
  • Read and update project drawings, splice matrices, and engineering documents.
  • Maintain daily reports, splice records, and equipment logs.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Fiber Optic Splicer to support data center, hyperscale, indoor, and outdoor fiber optic infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for preparing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting fiber optic cable installations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with fiber optic splicing and testing equipment, be comfortable working in a variety of environments, and possess the ability to read and maintain project documentation, splice schematics, and engineering drawings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fusion splicing on loose tube, ribbon, and high-density fiber optic cable, including single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
  • Work with fiber cable counts ranging from 12-count to 6912-count, depending on project requirements.
  • Prepare, clean, secure, route, and organize fiber optic cables within:
    • Splice enclosures
    • Fiber pedestals
    • Fiber panels
    • Fiber trays
    • Cabinets
    • Data center and outside plant infrastructure
  • Conduct Tier 1 certification testing using OLTS equipment and Tier 2 testing using OTDR equipment.
  • Operate visual fault locators and other fiber testing tools to verify network performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues, including:
    • High-loss events
    • Broken fibers
    • Crossed fibers
    • Dirty connectors
    • Documentation discrepancies
  • Read, interpret, create, and update:
    • Project drawings
    • Splice matrices
    • Cable schematics
    • Engineering documents
    • Test results
    • As-built documentation
  • Coordinate with Foremen, Project Supervisors, Project Managers, customers, and field crews to ensure project success.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, splice records, test documentation, production notes, equipment logs, and time records.
  • Inspect tools, vehicles, test equipment, and materials before use and report deficiencies promptly.
  • Follow all company, customer, site-specific, and industry safety requirements.
  • Complete required safety training and maintain proper PPE usage at all times.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, paperwork, filing, and additional project-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience prepping, splicing, and testing fiber optic cable in one or more of the following environments:
    • Data Centers
    • Hyperscale Facilities
    • ISP Networks
    • Outside Plant (OSP)
    • Fiber to the Home (FTTH)
    • FTTx Deployments
    • Indoor Structured Cabling
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience operating:
    • OTDR
    • OLTS
    • Visual Fault Locator (VFL) equipment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Fiber optic cable construction
    • Fiber color codes
    • Connector types
    • Splice trays and enclosures
    • Cable management best practices
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, splice records, cable schematics, and work prints.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain quality, productivity, and safety standards in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Work in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme heat.
  • Accurately identify and distinguish fiber color codes and other color-based labeling systems.
Travel Requirements

This role requires extensive travel for project assignments, which may last several months or longer.

Travel Schedule:
  • Typically 3 weeks on-site / 1 week home
  • Travel, flights, mileage, and project-related transportation provided by the company
Per Diem & Lodging:
  • Company-provided lodging plus $65/day per diem (7 days per week)
  • OR employees may secure their own lodging and receive $135/day per diem
