Job summary

B&F Contracting, Inc. is seeking a Fiber Field technician to oversee fiber crews in Phoenix, AZ. You will coordinate field operations, ensure safety, manage materials, reporting, and productivity across projects.

Responsibilities include supervising crews, enforcing OSHA standards, inspecting equipment, and maintaining quality while supporting team communication in a dynamic field environment. This role requires physical stamina and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of experience in fiber installation.
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of Fiber Splicing process.
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of Testing Fiber using OTDR.
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA, competent person, confined space, and hazard abatement training.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and permits.
  • Supervise and develop work crews; assist crews when needed in operating other equipment.
  • Maintain a safe worksite and enforce safe practices per company rules and OSHA regulations.
  • Avoid hazards and obstructions near utilities, equipment and workers.
  • Ensure materials and tools are safely loaded, secured, and maintained.
  • Inspect vehicles and report maintenance needs or issues.
  • Verify clean, secure work area with good housekeeping.
  • Enter crew hours and manage timecards.
  • Perform safety inspections and complete related reports.
  • Monitor quality and ensure company standards are met.

Job Summary

Provide field coordination and oversight to fiber /splice crews. This position is responsible for overall safety, materials, reporting, leadership, employee communication, and productivity measures.

Responsibilities
  • Review plans and permits
  • Supervise, train, and develop work crews, provide input and assist crews when needed in operating other equipment and/or assist the laborers out in the field
  • Maintain a safe worksite and enforce safe work practices by following company rules and OSHA regulations, leading crew pre-task planning, addressing employee concerns, and hazard abatement
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, fiber, and falling objects
  • Ensure that materials, equipment, and tools are safely loaded/unloaded, secured to crew vehicles, cleaned and maintained as prescribed
  • Inspect company vehicles for proper operating conditions, proper security, and proper stock of materials, both pre- and post-trip
  • Report any maintenance needs or improper operating conditions of crew trucks or equipment to the proper party
  • Check work area to ensure it is clean, secure, good housekeeping is being practiced, poses no risk to the public, employees, or the environment
  • Write any necessary reports, complete forms, post job related information on computer, find job information on computer as required and directed
  • Enter and submit the crew’s hours of work accurately, ensure timecards are signed by all crew members
  • Perform safety inspections of crew and equipment, provide feedback, stop any unsafe work (stop work authority), and complete reports as necessary, Near Misses, Incident/Accident Reports, etc.
  • Monitor quality standards of all jobs, including crew performance, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are met
  • Ensure adherence to ethics and compliance requirements
  • Perform a wide variety of manual labor tasks involving dexterous use of hand tools such as pneumatic, electric, and hand tools
  • Wear required PPE
Required Skills & Abilities
  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of experience in fiber installation
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of Fiber Splicing process
  • Preferred 2-4yrs of Testing Fiber using OTDR
  • OSHA 30
  • IMSA certification a plus
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, integrity, accountability, productivity, and teamwork
  • Good communication skills and the ability to manage and interact in a team environment
  • Ability to read and follow plans, drawings, and directions (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of street and highway fiber rules and regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or near roads and highways
  • Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment
  • OSHA, competent person, confined space, and hazard abatement training
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake, Arizona 811)
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Must be able to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and perform all job duties with no restrictions.
  • Must have flexibility in personal schedule including weekdays and occasional night and weekend work
  • Ability to stand and exert physical effort performing manual labor most of the day
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to work in severe weather conditions, including extreme heat
  • Valid driver license and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:

  • The outdoor elements, subject to variations in temperature and weather conditions, equipment noise, and dust
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling
