Job summary

CommScope is seeking an engineer to join our Shakopee, MN fiber optic Center of Excellence. You will contribute to the development of next‑generation fiber optic connectors and assemblies, collaborating across global teams from concept through validation, launch, and ongoing support.

You will design components, conduct testing, analyze data, and coordinate with manufacturing for new processes. This role emphasizes a lifecycle approach and eligibility for growth within our engineering ladder.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or a similar technical field.
• Experience with 3D modeling tools like CREO or SolidWorks.
• Experience designing injection-molded parts.
• Live within commuting distance of our Shakopee, MN facility.

Responsibilities

• Participate in new product development activities and support the release of new and modified products.
• Document product requirements based on industry standards and voice of customer.
• Design new components and assemblies and support optical and mechanical testing of fiber optic connectors.
• Perform component and assembly evaluation, data analysis and failure analysis. Write test reports detailing the results of testing.
• Review and approve product design and engineering change documentation for conformance to specifications.
• Coordinate with manufacturing teams on new process development during the introduction of new products into manufacturing.
• Generate a Record of Invention for innovations and pursue IP protection.
• Develop knowledge of fiber optic products and relevant industry standards.
• Gather knowledge of lab test equipment and engineering tools such as LEAN, DMAIC, DoE, FMEA and MSA.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a team-oriented environment.
