Job summary

Bluepeak is seeking a Fiber Maintenance Technician in Sheridan, WY to maintain, service, and repair our telecommunication network components. You will splice and activate fiber cables, troubleshoot HFC/fiber systems, and assist in training while engaging in on-call rotations and safety practices.

The role requires a high school diploma, basic electronics knowledge, and up to two years of related installation/repair experience; the position is on-site with full-time hours and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and working knowledge of the operation of an HFC network or fiber network are required
  • Two years of experience in an installation and repair role and related associates degree (or equivalent in training and experience) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Trouble-shoot and repair problems in HFC networks and/or fiber networks.
  • Splice and activate fiber optic cables, nodes, transmitters, and receivers.
  • Assist in training activities.
  • Perform emergency fiber restoration.
  • Identify and report all incidents of noncompliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA and Bluepeak standards).

Overview of the Position Responsibilities : Our Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing telecommunication network and components . If this sounds exciting, please read on.

What You Will Do:
  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Trouble-shoot and repair problems in HFC networks and or fiber networks
  • Test, balance, align and adjust components, cables and equipment used to amplify and process signals in both directions (Downstream and return path) including system sweep.
  • Perform maintenance, testing, and repair on HFC network power supplies
  • Splice and activate fiber optic cables, nodes, transmitters, and receivers
  • Assist in training activities
  • Perform emergency fiber restoration
  • Participate in on-call rotation
  • Identify and report all incidents of non-compliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA and Bluepeak standards)
  • Assure system security by following company procedures
  • Identify and report all incidents of noncompliance (FCC, NESC, OSHA and Bluepeak standards)
  • Complete all tasks to Bluepeak quality standards
  • Represent Bluepeak in a competent and professional manner to all customers, associates, and outside organizations
  • Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times
  • Responsible for motor vehicle per company policy including equipment & tool inventory, vehicle security and vehicle maintenance
  • Identify and repair all instances of signal leakage to ensure system conforms to F.C.C. Cumulative Leakage Index requirements and company standards
  • Perform plant serviceability surveys
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include cross functional assignments
  • Able to present technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to accurately measure distances using tapes and other measuring devices
  • Able to use assigned test equipment including but not limited to signal level meter (SLM), leakage detector, volt ohm meter, sweep receiver, underground locater, and TDR
  • Able to prioritize and organize assignments and responsibilities
  • Able to accurately maintain records, logs, reports, work orders, etc.
  • Able to operate office equipment, fax, copier, etc.
  • Able to handle escalations and time-critical issues
  • Able to read street maps and system design prints.
  • Able to work flexible hours as required including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts
What You Will Need:
  • Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and working knowledge of the operation of an HFC network or fiber network are required
  • Two years of experience in an installation and repair role and related associates degree (or equivalent in training and experience) is preferred
  • Word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, E‑mail, Database software
  • Ability to work while standing most of the time
  • Ability to walk or work over all types of terrain, in all types of weather
  • Ability to carry tools and equipment including, ladders, tool belts
  • Ability to work in tight spaces while bending, twisting, and reaching
  • Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder (approx. 28’ & 75lbs)
  • Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
  • Ability to perform work in elevated places (i.e., roofs and utility poles)
  • Ability to use drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other hand tools
  • Ability to work with small components
  • Ability to use close vision, peripheral vision and adjust focus
  • Ability to work in poorly vented areas such as attics, in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to move, crawl, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, and grasp
  • Ability to lift up to 90 pounds
  • Physically able to work on a computer equipment and test equipment
  • Ability to work in environments that may have dust, dirt, noise, insects, and cleaning solutions
  • Ability to work safely near power lines and electrical equipment
  • Ability to drive Company vehicles in a safe manner
  • Must be able to meet the physical limit requirements of personal protective equipment, aerial lift equipment, ladders and/or gaffs that may be used in this position
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
