Job summary

Lecom Utility Contractors in Michigan is seeking a Fiber/Coax Splicer to join our growing team. This role involves terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables within our networks and equipment while upholding strict safety standards and quality workmanship.

The Fiber Splicer will perform field construction and upgrades of fiber lines, maintain vehicle inventory, assemble equipment, install and test lines in trenches or pedestals, and troubleshoot after

Qualifications

  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling 50 pounds daily.
  • Comfort with outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL-A preferred.
  • Ability to operate OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of fiber lines
  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment
  • Assemble equipment according to design specifications
  • Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle—check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
  • Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints

Founded in 1980, Lecom Utility Contractors has grown to become one of Michigan’s premier power line and communication contractors. Lecom is a multi-million-dollar company that performs a range of contracting and installation services for energy and communication providers.
We are looking for a Fiber/Coax Splicer to join our growing team. This individual will be required to adhere to strict safety standards while ensuring the highest quality of work.
A Fiber Splicer will perform tasks associated with the construction/upgrade of telephone systems. A Fiber Splicer is responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables within the systems networks and their related equipment resulting in maximum operating efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of fiber lines
  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment
  • Assemble equipment according to design specifications
  • Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools
  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle-check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
  • Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints
Qualifications / Experience
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate professionally with co-workers, homeowners, and customers
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 pounds several times each day
  • Ability to endure long periods of standing, sitting, or walking
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment during all times of the year
  • Must have a valid driver’s license (CDL Class “A” preferred)
  • Ability to operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment
  • Ability to lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment
  • Must be available for weekend call outs
  • Ability to travel and work outside in all types of weather
