Job summary

KeyBank Real Estate Capital seeks a Deputy Chief Underwriter – LEAN to lead and personally underwrite complex FHA-insured healthcare transactions while coaching Senior Underwriters and the team. This on-site role partners with HUD and originators to drive sound deal structuring, risk management, and timely execution.

The incumbent will oversee underwriting quality, workflow, and training, ensuring adherence to Lien Guide requirements and program policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum seven years of FHA-insured multifamily underwriting experience.
• Three+ years in supervisory or senior leadership roles.
• Experience preparing HUD-required documents and narratives.
• Strong financial modeling and Excel analysis skills.
• Knowledge of LEAN Guide, HUD Handbooks, and FHA underwriting fundamentals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Bachelor's degree required.

Responsibilities

• Lead FHA Underwriting Team including Senior Underwriters and Analysts.
• Oversee portfolio and ensure accurate reporting and timely deal execution.
• Provide coaching and formal training to team members.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard new staff; conduct performance reviews.
• Underwrite complex FHA transactions and oversee HUD submissions.
• Maintain relationships with HUD field offices and external partners.
• Ensure compliance with HUD requirements and internal policies.
