Job summary

Cincinnati Children’s is seeking a skilled fetal echo sonographer to perform fetal echocardiograms and contribute to high-quality imaging for prenatal diagnosis. About This Role


  • Full-time, Monday - Friday

  • Fetal echocardiography only

  • In-depth fetal training will be provided for experienced pediatric echo sonographers


The fetal echo sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis. The professional level of this health care service requires highly skilled and competent individuals who function as integral members of the health care team. The diagnostic sonographer must be able to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The diagnostic sonographer must acquire and maintain specialized technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality care.


Job Responsibilities


  • Perform Fetal Echocardiogram - Obtain, review and bring together pertinent patient history, and supporting clinical data to facilitate diagnostic results. Provide interpreting physicians with an oral summary of diagnostic results. Prepare patient for examination by explaining the procedure. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize limitations of the exam. Utilize 2D optimization and 3D manipulation techniques with ultrasound equipment to aid with producing high-quality diagnostic information.

  • Report and Analyze Exam Results - Provide the interpreting physician an oral summary of diagnostic findings. Analyze the data, provide a preliminary written report, and review results with reading faculty for final interpretation.

  • Teamwork - Share knowledge and provide technical support for each team member. Additionally, assist with teaching Fellows, visitors and new departmental staff; and/or collaborate with Fetal radiologist, MFM physicians, and surgical teams to provide diagnostic imaging and guidance during fetal surgical procedures.

  • Research - May participate in clinical research related to prenatal cardiovascular disease. Measure and analyze echocardiographic data for research projects. Prepare and present findings in selected forums; at cardiology, obstetrical, echocardiography and/or sonography meetings; at meetings of potential funding sources (such as industry and The American Heart Association); at meetings of non-experts interested in medical research (students and journalists). Prepare and present scientific reports (abstracts, manuscripts, and articles) and manuals. May lead research projects as the principal investigator, generating the proposal and protocol for IRB approval.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

  • 2+ years of work experience in pediatric echocardiography

  • Fetal Echo experience
