JR Metal Works is seeking a Specialty Industries Welder to fit, fabricate, and weld custom ferrous assemblies with strong attention to dimensional accuracy.

You will read blueprints, interpret welding symbols, and produce high-quality welds in carbon steel, mild steel, and structural steel. The role emphasizes precision fit-up, safety, and continuous improvement to meet production goals.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in custom metal fabrication and welding.
• Strong ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specs.
• Experience welding carbon steel, mild steel, and structural steel.
• Experience with MIG/GMAW and Flux-Cored/FCAW welding.
• Ability to perform precision fit-up and welding on custom components.
• Accurate measurement, alignment, and inspection of components.
• Identify and correct weld distortion, fit-up issues, warping, and alignment problems.
• Maintain clean, organized work area and adhere to safety procedures.
• Own a welding helmet for on-site welding test and pass the assessment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and work orders.
• Fit, fabricate, tack, and weld carbon steel, mild steel, and structural steel components.
• Perform MIG/GMAW and Flux-Cored/FCAW welding per job requirements.
• Prepare, clean, and position materials for welding to ensure quality.
• Lay out, position, align, and fit components using fixtures and clamps.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances before, during, and after welding.
• Inspect welds for quality, appearance, and conformance to specs.
• Identify and correct fit-up issues and distortion before final welding.
• Apply welding techniques to control heat input and distortion.
• Perform grinding, cleaning, and weld preparation as needed.
• Operate shop equipment safely (grinders, torches, cranes, forklifts).
• Use precision measuring tools to verify part dimensions.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas in line with 5S and safety.
• Communicate material shortages, questions, and quality issues promptly.
