Job summary

Michigan State University College of Engineering’s Bioeconomy Institute in Lansing seeks an Equipment Support Specialist to provide hands-on technical support for fermentation and related process equipment. This temporary/on-call role offers up to 29 hours per week and operates 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday, to assist with setup, maintenance, and documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three years of hands-on technical experience.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Experience with pumps, motors, and process equipment preferred.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
• Ability to follow written/verbal instructions and safety rules.
• Ability to read equipment manuals and documentation.
• Inventory management and basic record-keeping experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup, operation, cleaning, maintenance, repair, and upgrade of fermentation vessels.
• Perform routine maintenance on pumps, motors, and related equipment.
• Support troubleshooting through diagnostics and inspections.
• Use hand/power tools safely to support maintenance activities.
• Organize parts, track inventory, and maintain maintenance records.
• Follow safety procedures and read manuals as required.
• Maintain equipment readiness to support operations.
• Document maintenance activities and prepare equipment for use.
