Qualifications

  • ASE Diesel Certification and manufacturer certifications are a plus.
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills related to diesel-powered vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, fuel systems, emissions systems, transmissions, brake systems, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and HVAC components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid inspections, and lubrication services.
  • Utilize diagnostic software, scan tools, and electronic testing equipment to identify vehicle concerns.
  • Inspect vehicles and recommend necessary maintenance or repair services.
  • Accurately document diagnostic findings, repair procedures, parts used, and labor performed on repair orders.
  • Perform warranty repairs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain compliance with all diesel emissions regulations and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Communicate repair needs and recommendations to Service Advisors and Service Management.
  • Ensure all repairs meet dealership quality standards prior to vehicle release.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs.
  • Follow all OSHA, environmental, and dealership safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist fellow technicians and support shop productivity as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Automotive Diesel Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards. This role performs inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and complex diesel engine repairs while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and accurately. The Diesel Technician contributes to guest satisfaction by delivering reliable repairs and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills related to diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Knowledge of diesel engine systems, fuel injection systems, turbochargers, emissions systems, and electronic controls.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic software and specialized repair equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck or Diesel certifications preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Diesel Technology or Automotive Technology training preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of diesel repair experience preferred.
  • Previous dealership, fleet, truck, or commercial diesel repair experience preferred.
  • ASE Diesel Certification and manufacturer certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work under vehicles and around heavy equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
Work Environment

Work is performed in a diesel service facility with exposure to noise, exhaust fumes, chemicals, grease, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and varying temperatures. This position requires frequent movement throughout the service department and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.
