Job summary

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine is seeking residents (Housestaff) for regular, full-time work in a dynamic training environment. Responsibilities include direct patient care, clinical data management, and participating in supervision of medical students and rotating residents.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and provide care to a broad spectrum of patients with illnesses, in order of presentation by the Senior Resident or Attending.
  • Serve as the attending's principal resource for day-to-day reliable clinical data.
  • Participate in all aspects of patient care, including history taking, physical examination, diagnostic and therapeutic planning, procedures, writing orders, and counseling with patients and their families.
  • Discuss in-depth all cases with the Senior Resident and/or Attending prior to initiation of all but the most basic diagnostic studies or therapeutic interventions.
  • Learn and perform procedures with complete approval and supervision of Senior Resident or Attending.
  • Attend to in-house call as assigned on the monthly call schedule.
  • Attend two half-days of continuity clinic every week (one at the VA and the other at UAMS).
  • Sit for the yearly Residency In-Service Training Examination (RITE).
  • Attend all required conferences.
  • Learn basic principles of neurology practice, especially through reading major reference books.
  • Maintain medical records in a timely manner.
  • Supervise medical students and interns/residents from other departments rotating on the specialty service.

Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine (COM) provides training, in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating institutions, in Graduate Medical Education programs that meet the standards established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and its Review Committees. Requirements for training are outlined through ACGME Institutional and program requirements to include eligibility, core competencies, levels of supervision, etc. Additionally, this position must follow UAMS and UAMS COM policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
