Job summary

Fremont-Farms-of-Iow is seeking a Feed Mill Operator to produce high quality feed and oversee mill operations. You will unload trucks, maintain a clean workspace, and work with operations staff to ensure timely production.

You will operate computer-controlled systems, handle inventory, and coordinate with teams to support farm operations. This role requires reliability, physical stamina, and basic mechanical knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or accepted.
• Experience in a feed mill, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with equipment maintenance and safety procedures is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage ingredient process flow from receiving to loadout, including grinding and batching.
• Receive ingredients and maintain feed mill, warehouse, bins, and equipment.
• Coordinate finished feed production runs for farms.
• Perform or coordinate preventative maintenance on mill equipment.
• Understand internal feed computer systems and process paperwork.
• Maintain adequate inventory of ingredients and finished feed.
• Keep a clean, orderly work environment.
• Provide backup support to coworkers and other departments.
• Coordinate with other departments on equipment troubleshooting and feed reporting.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Feed Mill Operator produces high quality feed and is knowledgeable about the feed mill manufacturing process, equipment, and systems.

Your role as a Mill Operator is not just a job but a pivotal contribution to the agricultural community. Your responsibilities include unloading trucks with precision, maintaining a clean work environment through general housekeeping duties, and collaborating with operations personnel. Your commitment to regular and prompt attendance, along with operating a computer-controlled system, ensures the seamless production of high-quality animal feed.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage ingredient process flow of entire feed mill to include receiving, grinding, batching, and loadout.
• Receive ingredients and maintenance of the feed mill, warehouse, bins, and related equipment.
• Coordinate, plan and execute finished feed production runs for the layer and pullet farms.
• Perform or coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of mill and related equipment as needed.
• Understand internal feed computer systems and process paperwork, orders, or related information to support farm operations.
• Follow established procedures to maintain sufficient ingredients and finished feed inventory levels.
• Maintain a clean orderly work environment.
• Provide back-up support to coworkers and other departments as required.
• Coordinates with other departments on troubleshooting day-to-day equipment concerns with feed consumption, scales, and accurate reporting of feed usage.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years related experience and/or training as a Feed Mill Operator/Industrial Maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Awareness and knowledge of the mechanical operations of a feed mill and knowledge of proper equipment maintenance
• Agricultural, mill, grain elevator, Industrial or equivalent experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good communication skills and a teamwork attitude are essential.
• Computer/iPad skills and understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) Safety Culture.
• Mechanical, electrical, and metal working knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely.
• Independent Self Starter/Team Player
• Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment and have an attention to detail.
• Mathematical ability is required.
• Knowledge of production agriculture or feed operations is preferred.
• Ability to walk and stand for 10 hours/day.
• Forklift, Skid Steer, Front End Loader experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Stand and walk frequently through the day. Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
