Job summary

Engineered Structures Inc. seeks a Traveling Sprinkler Fitter to install, modify, test, and repair fire protection sprinkler systems on commercial and industrial construction projects across the United States.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing hydrostatic testing, and coordinating with project teams while traveling frequently, including work at Federal sites CONUS and OCONUS. A valid passport and security clearance are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of sprinkler fitting, pipefitting, plumbing or related construction experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter certification or apprenticeship program completed.
  • NICET certification or other fire protection credentials.
  • Must pass background check and obtain/maintain access to Federal job sites; clean background preferred.
  • Active TS clearance or TS/SCI eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install sprinkler systems per plans, specs, and codes.
  • Read blueprints and contract documents; interpret shop drawings.
  • Measure, cut, thread, assemble, and install piping and components.
  • Install heads, valves, hangers, seismic bracing, and equipment.
  • Perform modifications, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing, flushing, inspections, and startup.
  • Troubleshoot issues and identify corrective actions.
  • Ensure installations meet quality and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Safely operate lifts, ladders, and power tools on site.

The Traveling Sprinkler Fitter is responsible for installing, modifying, testing, and repairing fire protection sprinkler systems on commercial and industrial construction projects throughout the United States. This position performs skilled trade work in accordance with project specifications, applicable fire protection codes, manufacturer requirements, and ESI safety standards. The Traveling Sprinkler Fitter collaborates with project teams and other trades to ensure fire protection systems are installed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This role requires frequent travel, flexibility, and the ability to work in a variety of construction environments and abroad.

This is a traveling position supporting Federal project sites both within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS).

Responsibilities
  • Install fire sprinkler systems in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Measure, cut, thread, groove, assemble, and install sprinkler piping and related components.
  • Install sprinkler heads, valves, hangers, supports, seismic bracing, and other fire protection equipment.
  • Perform system modifications, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing, flushing, inspections, and startup procedures.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and assist in identifying corrective actions.
  • Verify installations meet quality standards and project requirements.
  • Coordinate work activities with project managers, superintendents, inspectors, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Safely operate lifts, ladders, power tools, and other jobsite equipment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of sprinkler fitting, pipefitting, plumbing, or related construction experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of fire sprinkler installation practices, tools, and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter certification or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • NICET certification or other fire protection industry credentials.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, healthcare, or distribution facility construction.
  • Experience installing wet, dry, pre-action, and standpipe systems.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain/maintain access to Federal job sites; a clean background is required.
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance or TS/SCI eligibility preferred.

    Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    Work from ladders, scaffolds, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and elevated work platforms.
Travel Requirements
  • Ability to work extended schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to stay away from home for extended periods based on project requirements.
  • Travel to and work at Federal project sites both CONUS and OCONUS as required, including a valid passport where OCONUS travel applies.
