Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Federal Site Investigation and Remediation Design Team Lead with the potential to work out of Redmond, WA; Seattle, WA; or Tacoma, WA. Be involved in projects with our Federal Environmental Team and be a key driver in a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Take part in providing senior leadership and guidance to cross-discipline environmental teams from the Pacific Northwest and beyond in support of the design, development, and implementation of environmental site investigation and cleanup programs for Federal clients in the Pacific Northwest.

This position will include serving as a Senior Project Manager overseeing the development and execution of a variety of tasks in support of WSP’s portfolio of environmental programs for Federal clients. Tasks will include managing and overseeing the execution of large field investigations performed in a variety of environments, ranging from logistically-challenging urban/industrial sites to remote backcountry sites; coordinating with and overseeing WSP’s technical and design teams supporting Remedial Designs/Remedial Actions (RD/RAs) at contaminated sites (e.g., CERCLA and RCRA Sites), spanning initial pre-design investigations through RA/project closeout; and serving as a senior leader responsible for organizing and managing technical teams, assuring projects are delivered and adhered to with a focus on quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards and project requirements for design, safety, and functionality.

Work will primarily include office assignments, but some travel is likely, including overnight stays, to support project management, client management, and business development needs.

Your Impact
  • Lead environmental site investigation and cleanup program tasks for Federal clients, including planning and implementing pre-design investigations, large-scale sampling programs, analytical methodology selection, and preparation of technical evaluations for soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment media.
  • Coordinate and oversee remedial design development with multi-discipline technical and design teams, including review of technical memoranda, design reports, CAD/AutoCAD-supported drawings, specifications, design figures, site layouts, remedial design details, construction plan sets, and ArcGIS-based spatial analyses to support engineering evaluations and remedial design decisions.
  • Manage day-to-day execution of high-profile Federal task orders with a focus on client needs, design quality, safety, schedule, and delivery of practical cleanup solutions, while building client relationships, supporting senior leadership’s business development objectives, and assisting with pursuit of new opportunities.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures relevant to site characterization, engineering studies and surveys, pre-design investigation activities, and the planning and design of remedial construction activities.
  • Complete required training and implement lessons learned on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources and personal conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering; or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience demonstrating progressively more complex involvement in the execution and management of environmental cleanup programs for Federal clients (e.g., USACE, USEPA, DoD).
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in either Civil or Environmental Engineering in Washington State, Oregon, or Alaska.
  • Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required.
  • Have demonstrated experience in managing people and projects, including leading multi-discipline technical teams to deliver and meet the client’s needs.
  • Significant knowledge of the relevant provisions of CERCLA (Superfund), RCRA, and Washington State’s MTCA and SMS regulations.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing (orally and in written form) ideas effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail, flexibility with multi-tasking, and competency in prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as to function as part of a team, to meet business objectives.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek (overtime and weekend work is possible).
