Job summary

Empirical Corporation, a federal-focused financial management and IT services firm, seeks a Federal Senior Accountant in the Washington, DC area to lead and innovate in complex financial environments. You will shape procedures, deliver briefings to leadership, and support audit-ready reporting with strong controls.

Minimum 4–8+ years of federal accounting experience, CPA candidate/CGFM preferred, and ability to pass security requirements. Join a results-driven, growth-focused team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least 24 credit hours in accounting.
• 4-8+ years federal accounting/financial management experience.
• Strong command of federal accounting.
• Ability to interpret and develop financial management procedures.
• Exceptional communication skills with experience briefing leadership.
• Proficiency in SharePoint and Microsoft Office applications.
• CPA candidate and/or CGFM preferred.
• US Citizenship may be required for some client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze general ledger activity, technical accounting, and federal financial statements.
• Interpret and develop financial management procedures and policy documents.
• Perform regular reconciliations of accounts to ensure accuracy.
• Create and deliver briefings, point papers, and presentations for senior government leaders.
• Research and implement best practices to remediate audit findings and internal control deficiencies.
• Provide clear technical guidance to junior personnel and support process improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do:

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (minimum of 24 credit hours in accounting).
• 4-8+ years of federal accounting/financial management experience.
• Strong command of federal accounting
• Ability to interpret and develop financial management procedures
• Exceptional communication skills with experience preparing briefings and presenting to leadership.
• Proficiency in SharePoint and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
• CPA candidate and/or CGFM preferred.
• Ability to occasionally work extra hours to meet deadlines.
• Ability to pass a federal background check and/or federal security clearance (U.S. Citizenship may be required for some client engagements).
