Job summary

The U.S. Probation Office for the Southern District of Texas in Brownsville invites applications for the position of U.S. Probation Officer.

Officers conduct investigations, prepare reports, supervise offenders, and present recommendations to the court, coordinating with collateral agencies as needed. Minimum qualifications: a bachelor's degree with a 2.90+ GPA and at least two years of specialized experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with GPA 2.90+.
• At least two years of specialized experience in probation, pretrial services, parole, corrections, or related fields.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel) and related software.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations, prepare reports, and make recommendations to the court.
• Interview offenders/defendants and gather background data from sources.
• Enforce supervision components and assess risk with appropriate treatment.
• Testify in court as needed and maintain detailed case records.
• Coordinate with agencies and provide resources for employment and education.
