Job summary

U.S. PIRG is seeking a Federal Legislative Advocate to advance our health, environment, and consumer protection goals in Washington, DC. You will engage lawmakers, coordinate coalitions, and shape campaigns that promote reusable, repairable and sustainable policies.

The role emphasizes advocacy, outreach, and strategic communications, with opportunities to raise funds and expand our team while delivering tangible policy wins.

Qualifications

• At least two years of relevant experience in advocacy, grassroots organizing, coalition building, legislative work and/or political campaigns.
• Ability to engage diverse groups and build consensus.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Advocacy: Build support for campaigns in Congress and federal agencies; develop relationships with legislators and staff.
• Outreach & coalition building: recruit and collaborate with diverse groups supporting our campaigns.
• Communications & media outreach: organize press events and prepare materials for lawmakers and the public.
• Campaign strategy: assess opportunities to build political support through coalitions, organizing and messaging.
• Fundraise from foundations and individuals to support our work.
• Recruit and train new staff, interns and volunteers.
