A Glimpse of the Job

The Finance & Business Services Director (not ORP-eligible), under general direction, maintains responsibility for the management and direction of a specific function or unit.

Essential Duties
Leadership
  • Develops strategic plan for unit
  • Serves on departmental leadership team
  • Directs unit staff, setting performance standards and accountabilities
  • Ensures that programs, activities, and services comply with University, State, and Federal regulations
  • Provides input and guidance into the budget and fiscal operations of the unit
  • Develops and seeks funding for programs to promote unit mission
  • Oversees communications, promotions, and public relations for units
  • Develops and implements unit programs
  • Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents the department at various State and National associations
Department Specific
  • Serve as the Budget Office representative on campus committees, including the Facilities/Construction Committee
  • Collaborate with assigned departments on financial management, budgeting, and related business processes
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, SBC reports, and other data management tools to support departmental operations and decision-making
  • Compile, analyze, and present financial and operational data to leadership, councils, committees, and other stakeholder groups
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and respond to data requests, including support for special projects and open records requests
  • Partner with Budget Office leadership and fellow directors to develop, update, and maintain campus-wide training materials
  • Serve as a resource for new employees by providing guidance, knowledge transfer, and onboarding support
  • Create, maintain, and expand documentation, procedures, and reference materials related to Budget Office functions and responsibilities

Salary : Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating campus-wide training initiatives, developing instructional materials, and presenting information to large audiences
  • Knowledge of higher education budgeting, financial planning, and institutional reporting practices
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with academic, administrative, and auxiliary units
  • Demonstrated experience developing executive-level dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support strategic decision-making
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Other Requirements
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
