Job summary

FarmTeam Swine Tech is seeking a Swine Technician for a Wean-to-Finish system onsite in Minnesota. You will oversee daily care, health management, feeding, and welfare of pigs from weaning to market weight while maintaining records and following biosecurity protocols.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with preference for animal husbandry exposure. Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, and visa sponsorship is available for qualified applicants.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Daily health monitoring and adherence to protocols.

  • Prepare barn between groups of pigs and assist with movements.
  • Manage feeding schedules, clean feeders and waterers for growth.
  • Keep accurate daily records and assist with pig marketing.

Job Description

A Swine Technician in a Wean-to-Finish system manages the daily care of pigs from weaning until they reach market weight focusing on health, and welfare of pigs. This role involves performing tasks related to animal husbandry, health management, feeding, marketing and facility maintenance to ensure the highest standards of swine production.

Essential Functions

  • Daily monitoring of health and follow protocols.
  • Ensuring proper barn temperature, ventilation, and air quality.
  • Barn preparation between groups of pigs.
  • Assisting with pigs’ movements.
  • Managing feeding schedules, cleaning feeders, checking waterers, and ensuring optimal feed availability for growth.
  • Maintaining accurate daily records.
  • Pig market selection and marketing.
  • Strict adherence to biosecurity protocols.
  • Follow animal welfare, biosecurity regulations and company policies.

Marginal functions

  • Light groundskeeping and upkeep around the farm
  • Power washing
  • Light maintenance
  • Other duties and projects assigned by the Farm Manager.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in animal husbandry or swine production is preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, and ability to be on foot 8 to 10 hours per day
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling
  • Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull
  • Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
  • Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move
  • Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with the assistance of another person as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to print and/or write legibly

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must have reliable method of transportation to get to work
Pay Range

$17.00-$18.00
