Job summary

Jackson County Florida 4-H is seeking a Farm Supervisor to lead land preparation, field setup, and crop maintenance across research plots. You will supervise crew members, ensure safety training, and coordinate with labs to support harvests.

The role requires a high school diploma, pesticide license, and 3 years in agricultural operations with supervision. Health assessment is required; position is on-site with a typical 50k salary commensurate with experience.

  • Preferred: 5-7 years experience at an IFAS REC center.

Responsibilities

  • Leads land preparation including disking, harrowing, levelling and setup of fields using GPS systems.
  • Field setup including fumigation, laying plastic mulch, installation of irrigation equipment.
  • Season-end crop termination, removal of plastic mulch, twine and planting cover crops.
  • Ensures calibration and maintenance of spray equipment.
  • Supervise farm crews during crop maintenance operations and ensure they are trained to fulfill tasks.
  • Oversight of crop production including pest control, fertilizer application, irrigation, and crop maintenance.
  • Assists with coordination with labs for successful harvest of research crops.
  • Implements maintenance programs for farm and irrigation equipment.
  • Provide guidance on routine repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Coordinate cleaning of equipment and work areas to ensure sanitary conditions.
  • Maintain center records and reports regarding farm conditions and machinery.
  • Conducts hiring, training and supervision of OPS and new Ag Assistant I and II members.
  • Trains interns on tractor safety, operation, and calibration of spray equipment.
  • Provides support for field days and farm tours.
  • Other duties as assigned (events, emergencies, on call).

Crop Production

  • Coordinate all cleaning of equipment and work areas to ensure sanitary conditions.

  • Responsible for cleanliness, orderliness and maintenance of all work and storage areas.

  • Consult with research staff in planning crop production and research activities.

  • Maintains Center records and reports regarding farm conditions, machinery, and other operational issues.


Supervision and Teaching


  • Conducts hiring, training and supervision of OPS and new Ag Assistant I and II members of the farm crew.

  • Trains interns on the basics of tractor safety, operation, and calibration of spray equipment.


Provides support for field days and farm tours.


Other duties as assigned (such as assist with center events, on call for center emergencies, at all hours).


Expected Salary

$50K commensurate with experience and education


Required Qualifications

Pesticide license.


Preferred Qualifications: 5-7 years experience working on an IFAS REC center agricultural field.
