Job summary

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking an Assistant To Farm Superintendent for the Hadley Farm at the CNS Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment. This onsite, full-time role supports daily operations, equipment maintenance, and student outreach under the Farm Superintendent and Equine Barn Manager.

Responsibilities include daily facility inspections, animal care, record-keeping, scheduling, and coordination of veterinary appointments, while ensuring safety, biosecurity,

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of full-time direct experience with the care of horses.
• Experience in equine handling and husbandry practices including assessing animal health and administering prescribed treatments.
• Knowledge of pasture and manure management best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently to organize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily census, production, and medical records.
• Coordinate daily care and feeding of horses and livestock, including cleaning stalls and paddocks.
• Assist in coordination of veterinary and related appointments.
• Operate and maintain farm equipment and record-keeping systems.
• Ensure compliance with University Farm Protocols, biosecurity guidelines, and applicable laws.
• Support education and outreach programs involving the horse facility.
