Job Description

Farm Management Position for 2025 Season at Flowering Sun Ecology Center

Flowering Sun Ecology Center is hiring two experienced farmers to manage a smaller-scale vegetable and flower production for the 2025 season. This position runs from late March/early April through November, with opportunities to engage in meaningful work at our organic farm nestled in the Catskill Mountains near Ellenville, NY.

Our farm cultivates approximately one acre of land and greenhouses, with an additional two acres of permanent beds at a nearby location. We provide high-quality organic produce to local markets, food hubs, and restaurants, and over the past two years, have focused on building a year-round CSA model. In 2025, we’re expanding to offer select crops to our current customers. Deliveries span NJ, PA, NY, MA, and NYC.

As part of a cooperative transitioning from a multi-member LLC, we have diverse business models that promote sustainability, leadership, collaboration and sovereignty. We’re also in the early stages of forming a larger producer cooperative with fellow growers.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and managing crop plans and planting schedules.
  2. Seed starting, transplanting, and operating tools like greens harvesters, paper pot transplanters, and Jang seeders.

  4. Pruning and trellising greenhouse crops (e.g., tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers).
  5. Mitigating disease using natural solutions and managing irrigation.
  6. Cultivating, mulching, tarping, and maintaining farm aesthetics.

Ideal candidates will have:

  1. Farming experience and a strong work ethic.
  2. Self-organization, motivation, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  3. Respect for tools, equipment, and the people they work with.
  4. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to a high-vibe, drama-free environment.
