Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Herdsperson to assist herd technicians with routine animal care and general farm tasks. You may operate mowers, tractors, trucks, and other equipment as directed, and you will help ensure animal health, growth and breeding at the site.

Salary is hourly at $16.75 with potential training for advanced Herd Technician designation. The role requires a willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, with on-call availability for emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous livestock handling helpful.
• Ability to do hard physical labor.
• Strong commitment to teamwork.
• Willingness to shower daily in and out of facility.
• Must be able to work an average 48-hour work week, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Must be on call for emergencies and able to work with others in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist other Herd Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks.
• Move and treat animals; perform farm sanitation and general duties.
• Operate mowers, tractors, trucks, bus and other farm equipment as directed.
• Provide for the care of animals' health, growth, and breeding.
