Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a Family Time Supervisor to oversee Family Time Specialists and Facilitators, ensuring safety during visits and adherence to court orders. The role includes onboarding, ongoing staff development, and producing compliant reports for the division.

The Supervisor collaborates with the Division Manager and Division Director, supports strategic goals, and acts as a community liaison to achieve positive outcomes for children.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree related to child welfare social casework supervision.
• Master’s degree or higher in social work or a human behavioral science field.
• Three (3) years of professional, internship, or volunteer work experience in a human services related agency.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Family Time Specialists and Facilitators to ensure adherence to court orders and safety during visits.
• Provide onboarding and ongoing training plans for staff development and ensure professional, timely reports.
• Coordinate with treatment teams to achieve timely legal permanency for children.
• Promote a culturally respectful climate and mediate conflicts during Family Engagement meetings when needed.
• Produce and distribute timely, professional documentation to all appropriate parties.

The Family Time/Facilitator Supervisor is responsible for assigning cases to Family Time Specialists and Facilitators while ensuring effective workload management. This role provides direct supervision to staff at least bi-weekly to ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local statutes, policies, and procedures. The Supervisor performs key personnel actions, including authoring and conducting performance evaluations, making hiring and termination recommendations, and implementing County disciplinary practices as necessary. Reporting directly to the Division Manager, the Supervisor supports the division’s strategic direction and common goals, collaborating with the Division Director as appropriate. The successful candidate will be an active, positive member of the Child Welfare and MCDHS leadership teams, fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment. Additionally, the Supervisor acts as a community liaison, working collaboratively with partners to achieve positive outcomes for children. Other related duties may be assigned as required.

Family Time

The Supervisor ensures that Family Time Specialists adhere to court orders and that children and youth remain safe and protected during family visits. Responsibilities include ensuring reports are professional, timely, and compliant with HB-23-1027. The Supervisor proactively engages with the community to facilitate family time in natural settings when appropriate and provides comprehensive onboarding and ongoing training plans for staff development. All supervision is conducted with the best interests of the child in mind, coordinating with treatment teams to achieve timely legal permanency.

Facilitators

The Supervisor ensures that Facilitators effectively schedule, coordinate, and prepare for various meetings within open child welfare assessments and cases. This involves fostering strong engagement with parents, caregivers, and support systems to ensure the best interests of children and youth remain paramount. The Supervisor oversees the production and distribution of timely, professional documentation to all appropriate parties. Key duties include providing professional development opportunities, assisting staff in mediating conflicts during Family Engagement meetings to reach positive outcomes, and promoting a culturally respectful climate for all family interactions.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• A bachelor’s degree from a higher education institution with coursework related to the job responsibilities of child welfare social casework supervisor.


• Course work examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques; and, Three (3) years of professional, internship, or volunteer work experience in a human services related agency;


• A master’s degree or higher in social work or a human behavioral science field;


• Two (2) years of professional, internship, or volunteer work experience in a human services related agency.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment: This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds. Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
