Job summary

Addus Home Care is seeking a Family Service Specialist to assist families in crisis through DCFS programs and state contracts. You will prepare reports, maintain records, and sign monthly progress notes while supporting families with housing, jobs, and resources.

The role offers flexible full-time or part-time shifts, with daily pay options and direct deposit. Eligible benefits include medical, vision, and retirement options after probation, plus mileage reimbursement and a caring work culture.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Associate's degree or two years of work experience in social work related to child welfare is required.
• Must have a dependable automobile, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.
• Must pass the CANTS background check and other required background checks.

Responsibilities

• Work with families in crisis through DCFS and state contracts.
• Prepare written reports and maintain records and court testimony.
• Prepare and sign client progress reports monthly with dates, goals, and service details.
• Report all child abuse and neglect and notify supervisor of significant events.
• Attend mandated training and conduct home visits teaching homemaking and parenting skills.
• Provide transportation for supervised visitation and observe interactions; redirect as needed.
• Help families locate housing and access community resources.
• Assist clients with finding jobs and other services to support family stability.
• Support intact families to prevent child placement.

In this job, you will assists families in crisis through DCFS programs including: Family Habilitation Services, Visitation and Housing. Family Service Specialists provide services that help families comply with court-ordered program participation and work through difficult situations. Training is provided through the office and on-the-job.

Family Service Specialist Benefits

FSS Duties

• Work with families in crisis through DCFS and various State contracts
• Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records and court testimony
• Prepare and sign client progress reports on a monthly basis:
  • Scheduled dates and units of service
  • Specific goals/issues to be addressed for each date of service
  • Documentation as to whether each appointment was successful or missed
  • Reports of progress for each identified goal
  • Recommendations for future service
• Report all child abuse and neglect
• Immediately report any significant events, changes in family circumstances, or unusual incidents involving the client or family members to their supervisor
• Attend all mandated training
• Work directly with families in the home, teaching and demonstrating homemaking skills, parenting skills, anger management, utilizing effective resources
• Supervised visitation / Unsupervised visitation -- Provide transportation for parent and/or children to and from locations for supervised visitation. Observe all interaction of visitation, parent and child behaviors and redirect according to parenting needs and parent / child behaviors
• Help families locate housing throughout the local areas. Housing could include public government housing, private rent, or shelter care
• Assist clients with finding jobs and community resources
• The goal of services for intact families is to support the family and prevent the placement of the child(ren) out of the home.

FSS Requirements & Competencies

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• An associate's degree from an accredited institution is required or two years of work experience in social work related to child welfare is required.
• Must have a dependable automobile, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance
• Must pass the CANTS background check and other required background checks

Eligible employees and their dependents will be offered medical, hospitalization, vision, and dental benefits through the employer sponsored minimum essential plan. Employees are also eligible to enroll in employer sponsored retirement plan after 6 months of service (21 years of age). Accrued paid time off (up to 40 hours per year, based on hours worked). All DCFS employees, who average a minimum of 25 hours over a three-month period, are eligible for holiday pay benefits.
