Role Description

The Family Physician Assistant position is part-time on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00am to 5:30 pm every week and another position for Monday-Fridays 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Off on Wednesdays., on-site role based at San Fernando Medical Center in San Fernando, CA. This role involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed physician, including conducting histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing evidence-based treatment plans. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing acute and chronic conditions, providing preventive care such as vaccinations and screenings, and offering patient education on disease management and healthy lifestyles. The Family Physician Assistant will see patients across the lifespan in both scheduled primary care visits and urgent care encounters, documenting all care in the medical record and collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The role also includes participation in care coordination, quality improvement initiatives, and adherence to all clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated competence in Primary Care and Family Medicine to manage a broad range of acute and chronic conditions across the lifespan.


• Experience or training in Urgent Care and Medicine for triaging, stabilizing, and treating patients with immediate healthcare needs.


• Knowledge of Preventive Medicine principles, including screenings, immunizations, and health promotion for diverse populations.


• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program and current, unrestricted PA license (or eligibility) in the state of California.


• Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or equivalent, and current BLS/ACLS certifications.


• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and families from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.


• Comfort with electronic health records (EHRs), documentation standards, and adherence to HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.


• Willingness to participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
