Creighton University Phoenix Family Medicine Residency and District Medical Group are pleased to announce an opening for a full-spectrum adjunct faculty position inclusive of limited inpatient medicine for an established 9-9-9 Family Medicine Residency Program located in Phoenix, Arizona.This position will include leadership and oversight of inpatient and outpatient care supervising residents and students as the attending in the hospital, and outpatient continuity clinic. This position will report to the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program

Creighton University Phoenix Family Medicine Residency Program and District Medical Group invite applications for a Family Medicine Adjunct Faculty Physician position. This unique opportunity is designed for board-certified family physicians who are passionate about teaching and mentorship and are interested in developing a career in academic medicine while maintaining a full-time outpatient clinical practice.

The Adjunct Faculty Physician serves as a clinical educator for residents and medical students while continuing primary clinical responsibilities in an outpatient setting. This role provides a structured pathway for physicians seeking to develop educational, leadership, and scholarly skills that may prepare them for future advancement into a Core Faculty position within the residency program.

Responsibilities

Structured Periodic Clinical Teaching

• Provide outpatient supervision and teaching for Family Medicine residents in continuity clinic a few times a month.
• Teach and mentor medical students during clinical rotations.
• Model evidence-based, patient-centered care and professionalism.
• Provide real-time feedback and evaluation to learners.
• Participate in educational discussions, case reviews, and clinical teaching sessions.

Inpatient Teaching Experience

• Participate in supervision of residents on scheduled inpatient weekend call and supervision activities alongside residents to keep your inpatient skills and experience inpatient teaching.
• Assist with resident education in the inpatient setting.
• Demonstrate effective teaching strategies during hospital rounds and patient care activities.
• Support the development of residents' clinical reasoning, communication, and leadership skills.

Academic Development

• Participate in faculty development initiatives designed to enhance teaching effectiveness, learner assessment, feedback delivery, and curriculum development.
• Engage in scholarly activities, quality improvement projects, or educational initiatives as appropriate.
• Attend selected residency conferences, faculty meetings, and educational events.
• Work with assigned faculty mentors to develop an individualized academic and professional development plan.

Professional Growth

The Adjunct Faculty Physician position is intended as an academic career development role. Physicians will receive mentorship and opportunities to:

The ideal candidate will share our philosophy of serving the community and supporting the academic mission of the Residency Program and Creighton University.The position also includes the opportunity to teach medical students and to be involved with expanding the field of Family Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine’s Phoenix campus.The position requires direct patient care, resident, and medical student teaching, precepting, in addition to administrative and scholarly activities in compliance with ACGME requirements.Supervision of residents on night and weekend call service are required.Proctoring available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Academic:

• Prepare and provide lectures, as assigned for didactic teaching of both residents and medical students.
• Review Creighton student Family Medicine clinical rotation performance and provide rotation grades for assigned students.
• Participate in scholarly activities.
• Serve on Creighton/DMG committees as assigned.
• Mentor students who intend to match to Family Medicine residency and provide letters of recommendation as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Clinical:

• Provide direct patient care to patients in the Family Medicine Residency Clinic located at South Central clinic (FQHC) as well as on the inpatient service at Valleywise Health Medical Center
• Supervise residents and students in the family medicine clinic and inpatient service.
• Participate in scheduled staff meetings, committees, quality improvement activities, and peer review as needed.
• Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
• Maintain current professional certification and licensure requirements.
• Promote professionalism by modeling and encouraging professional behaviors inside and outside the educational setting.

Education and/or Experience

This position requires either a D.O. or M.D. degree. At time of hire, the candidate must have a current unrestricted license to practice in the State of Arizona, a current DEA license for schedule 2-5 drug classes, and be insurable for medical liability coverage. Board eligibility or certification in Family Medicine specialty required. Candidates should have a passion for teaching Family Medicine and have a strong demonstrated commitment to providing patient-oriented approach to healthcare. Successful candidates will display a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to work in multidisciplinary and inter-professional teams and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The FQHCs qualify for both the Federal and State HPSA Loan Repayment Programs and have a system score of 19.
