Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is hiring a full-time Child Welfare Specialist-Floater, Monday through Friday. The role provides comprehensive casework services related to foster care, intact families, and guardianship within CCS, across a 120-mile catchment area as needed.

Responsibilities include case planning, documentation, reporting, supervision participation, and coordination with schools and health care providers to support children’s well-being.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required.
  • Background check clearance (criminal and CANTS).
  • State licensing/certification as required by Illinois DCFS.
  • Certification in all subregions within one year of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate a continuum of casework services to achieve permanency for children and families across CCS.
  • Follow the service plan and engage clients in processes.
  • Complete and submit reports, documentation, and billing timely.
  • Participate in supervision and staffing, and conduct family-child team meetings.
  • Coordinate with schools and health care facilities to promote well-being.
  • Perform driving duties across multiple sites within CCS catchment.
  • Adhere to Youth in Care Sit List protocol and maintain professionalism.

LSSI is hiring a full-time Child Welfare Specialist-Floater, Monday through Friday. Provides the full services related to assigned cases under CCS (foster care, intact, adoption/guardianship of FSS services) to children and families within state mandates, COA standards, agency policies, and program plans. Is responsible for case management as assigned across multiple sites, working with any CCS team within a 120-mile catchment area from ‘home’ site within CCS Network as needed at the discretion of leadership.

Essential Functions
  • Provide and coordinate a continuum of casework services on all levels for the child welfare system designed to achieve permanency for children and their family of origin, extended family, or a foster/adoptive family within the policies of the agency, accreditation body, and regulatory entity.
  • Perform all tasks as required in the written service plan that is based upon the comprehensive, integrated assessment being certain to engage children and families in these processes.
  • Complete and submit all required reports, documentation, and billing accurately and timely as required by agency and funding sources.
  • Participate in supervisory process for guidance, direction, support, and approval of decision-making, assessment, service planning, and intervention. Present cases for staffing and conduct family-child team meetings.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other service providers, schools, and health care facilities to promote the child(ren)’s well-being.
  • Complete all employment-related driving duties and responsibilities during various hours of operation, which include day, night, weekend, holidays, normal business, after-hours, and extended distances throughout the state.
  • Ensure and comply with all duties and responsibilities related to the Youth in Care Sit List protocol.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or degree in related human services field required.
  • Background check clearance, both criminal and CANTS required.
  • State licensing/certification as required by the state of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
  • Completion of certification in all subregions offered programming (FC, Adoption/Guardianship, Intact & FSS) within one year of position attainment.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the CWEL field and one (1) year of employment at LSSI required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, verbally and written.
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
  • Proof of valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage required.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
