Job description

A busy family in Maplewood, NJ is seeking an experienced, proactive Family Assistant to help manage their household and provide afternoon and early evening care for their two boys, ages 3 and 1. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who enjoys independently managing household responsibilities while providing warm, attentive childcare. The family is seeking a long-term partner who takes pride in creating an organized, smoothly functioning home.

Schedule

• Friday or Saturday evenings, 7:00 PM-11:00 PM, approximately twice per month, with scheduling coordinated in advance
• Start: As soon as the right match is found

Responsibilities

Household Management

• Independently manage family laundry, kitchen resets, and household tidying and organization
• Handle grocery shopping, inventory, restocking essentials, errands, and returns
• Prepare family meals and assist with dinner preparation
• Organize and maintain children's clothing, toys, and supplies
• Coordinate deliveries and household appointments and service providers as needed
• Proactively identify and complete household tasks, anticipating needs and managing recurring responsibilities independently
• Pet care (letting dogs into the yard, filling food and water, litter box upkeep, tidying pet areas)
• Maintain household order between visits from the family's professional cleaning service; deep cleaning is not required
• Pick up both children from daycare around 5:00 PM
• Assist with dinner, evening routines, and age-appropriate activities
• Provide safe, nurturing care for both children
• Work collaboratively with parents during evening hours, flexibly transitioning between childcare and household responsibilities as needed on any given evening
• Assist with dinner cleanup, preparing for the following day, and other tasks that help evenings run smoothly
• Two boys, ages 3 and 1, attending full-time daycare
• Two dogs and two cats
• One parent is vegetarian; vegetarian meal preparation experience is a plus
• Occasional travel-related household or pet care flexibility appreciated
• $35/hour via payroll

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional childcare experience, including infants and toddlers
• Previous Family Assistant or Household Management experience
• Clean criminal and driving record
• Valid driver's license
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before starting)
• Authorized to work in the U.S.
• Pet-friendly (dogs and cats)
• Physical ability to lift/carry the children
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
