University Settlement Society of New York in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an energetic youth program assistant for a 10-month, part-year position at 1060 Clarkson Ave. You will assist group leaders in creating engaging activities for up to 20 youth, focusing on safety and inclusion.

  • HS Diploma or HSE preferred, or 1 year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age with up-to-date working papers.
  • Ability to commit for the entire season.
  • Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Group Leaders in creating and implementing engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program
  • Support Group Leaders in designing and implementing lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the summer
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times
  • Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff
  • Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms
  • Assist the Group Leader with completing all necessary documentation and administrative tasks
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s)
