Job summary

Element Detroit Wixom is a full-service metallurgical and materials testing laboratory supporting automotive, aerospace, defense and industrial sectors. The Failure Analyst / Metallurgical Engineer will lead failure analysis inspections, report findings, and consult with clients on solutions.

The role requires expertise in metallurgy, root-cause analysis, and SEM/EDS in an ISO 17025 environment. Strong communication and supervisory skills are essential to manage client projects and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Experience and recognized qualification in Metallurgy.
  • Experience in conducting and reporting of root cause failure analysis.
  • Experience in working with SEM / EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive analysis).
  • Experience working in an ISO17025 laboratory environment.
  • Proven supervisory skills.
  • Strong communication / presentation skills.
  • Ability to assess and respond to client requirements.
  • Team-oriented and adaptable to different workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision, conducting and reporting of failure analysis.
  • Operate metallurgical equipment including SEM/EDS.
  • Project management of client communication, quotations, follow up, reporting, and invoicing.
  • Presentation of technical work in different platforms, both written and oral in a confident manner.
  • Exhibit pragmatic and innovative approaches to investigations and client solutions.
  • Review technical documents and define a suitable scope of work.
  • Estimate work effort and assist in commercial breakdown.
  • Supervise routine metallographic examinations and review/compose standard reporting comments.

Element has an opportunity for a Failure Analyst / Metallurgical Engineer who will be primarily responsible for the failure analysis inspections, operations, reporting and consultation services.

Element Detroit Wixom is a full-service metallurgical and materials testing laboratory supporting the automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. Founded in 1987, the laboratory provides extensive expertise inmechanical testing,fatigue testing,metallurgical evaluations, chemical analysis, corrosion testing, and advanced failure analysis, helping manufacturers validate material performance and resolve complex engineering challenges.
