Job summary

Brooks Instrument in Hatfield, PA is seeking a Failure Analysis Technician to perform root-cause analysis on customer returns, manufacturing rejects, and engineering samples. You will troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical assemblies and document findings.

Responsibilities include functional testing, case documentation, and collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Management to improve product reliability.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Two+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial instrumentation or similar devices preferred.
  • Familiarity with precision instrumentation and flow/pressure control products is a plus.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical specs.
  • Experience with common test equipment (DMM, scopes, power supplies).
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn company systems.

  • Perform component-level troubleshooting using schematics, drawings, specifications, and test equipment.
  • Execute functional and performance testing using engineering procedures and specialized test equipment.
  • Document investigation findings, root cause, and corrective actions in technical reports.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Technical Services, and Product Management to resolve technical issues.
  • Recommend improvements to testing methods, procedures, fixtures, and documentation.
  • Identify recurring product issues and support product/process improvements.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, records, and a clean, safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Function

Perform failure analysis on Brooks Instrument products to determine the root cause of customer returns, manufacturing issues, and field failures. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical assemblies using laboratory equipment, engineering documentation, and established test methods. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve product reliability and customer satisfaction.

Education And Experience
  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Two or more years of experience troubleshooting industrial instrumentation, electronics, electromechanical products, or similar devices preferred.
  • Familiarity with precision instrumentation, flow and pressure control products, or comparable process equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, assembly documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Experience using common electronic test equipment, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and similar laboratory instruments.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and the capacity to learn engineering and business systems such as Teamcenter, Salesforce, and other company applications.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational skills, with a strong foundation in root cause analysis and clear technical documentation.
